A Japanese dream to Procurement Manager at Alamis ft. Shivalal, Procurement Manager

"I always dreamed of working as a chef in Japan!"

“Growing up in a small, hilly town in Nepal, I come from a village of farmers. I completed my education until the 12th grade and set out on my dream to pursue my culinary career in Japan! So I voyaged from Nepal to New Delhi to pursue my dream. Through the hustle & bustle of New Delhi, I realized how difficult it would actually be to reach Japan! Moreover, I had to support my family financially. That’s when my brother, who had already crossed shores to the Emirates got me a visa to the UAE. Through a few connections, I was able to land myself a job as an office boy at Alamis Decor. I was excited. A small-town boy found himself amongst huge skyscrapers, modern transport; I knew this would be the perfect start to a new life. I was always a keen learner. So even though I work as an office boy, I also got an opportunity to get my hands on a computer! It was so fascinating!

I started at the reception and moved to manage administrative tasks. Almost a decade later, I now work as the procurement & purchase manager at Alamis. Talking to suppliers, negotiating prices, I never in my wildest dreams did I think I’ll make it this far, maybe this is what a determination looks like! I would extend my gratitude to the managers at Alamis for allowing me to learn, explore & grow higher. I never had second thoughts about switching companies, but who knows, I might actually continue to pursue my dream in Japan!”

We’re excited to be announcing a new series, “Humans of Alamis”, where we share the journey of our employees, over the years!
