Designed And Built My Own House ft. Sasidharan, Production Supervisor

“Because of financial constraints, I had to drop out of school after the tenth grade”

I came from a family of carpenters, so I naturally gravitated toward the same trade. Back then, carpentry in India wasn’t very organized; I’d never seen a shop drawing in my life!

We relied on our instincts and hoped the furniture wouldn’t fall apart (it never did). All my life, I had only one goal: to steady my family’s financial ship and, like other people, to build a lovely home.

So, thanks to a recommendation from the owner of my Indian company, I was able to set sail for Dubai. Back then, I’d only heard of the “gulf dream.” I was always intrigued to find out what it was.

I had almost no clue what to expect. However, when I started working at Alamis, I learned for the first time what a shop drawing was.

There were also a lot of details to learn. Work and craftsmanship were different in the UAE, and little did I realize I was working for one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. I was able to learn a lot from Alamis. I was able to work on projects ranging from the Dubai airports to hotels and schools.

Over the last 13 years, I’ve had to deal with a lot of complicated joinery items, but I always seem to find a solution! After all, client happiness is something I take great delight in. Work must be done at all hours of the day and night. With jobs on the side and each day passing, I rapidly began saving for my dream: a house to call home in Kerala.

With all the experience in joinery, I was able to create drawings and details and handcraft the majority of the items myself. I couldn’t have asked for a better location to start my life. The management has been supportive ever since I’ve come here, and I’ve never considered switching companies. Sure, the job might be demanding at times, but if you love what you do, it becomes more of a passion than a job, really!
